Marco Polo Video Walkie Talkie

Marco Polo Video Walkie Talkie is a great tool to stay in touch with your friends and family. You can exchange video messages expressing yourself and watching your loved ones. For me, this app is a way to feel closer to people I love and care about but don’t always have time to meet offline.

Features: 7/10

Marco Polo is made purely for video messages. When you start recording your message, the recipient gets a notification, and they can decide whether to watch it live or to see your video later. I find this feature very convenient.

You can use filters, add a doodle or a text message to your video or even use a voice changer. I guess these features are just for fun, and that is exactly what you want from talking to close friends and beloved family members, right? Of course, if you have a serious or neutral conversation plain videos will be enough.

All the videos are stored so you can watch them again later. Even though you can communicate only with people from your contact list, remember that all your personal information including videos is collected and stored by the app. So, it’s never a bad idea to have a look at app’s privacy policy. As with any media-sharing tool, be thoughtful about what content you share.

Also, if you’re a parent, you should teach your children how to use communication apps like that, how to interact with strangers, and what is appropriate to share with friends, family members, and people you don’t know so well.

Performance and User Experience: 8/10

I downloaded Marco Polo because of my sister who can’t get enough of it. We get used to talking via the app pretty soon, and I invited some close friends as well because I find it very convenient. When I don’t have time to type a message, I just make a video and send it to a person I need to talk to. One of the things I love the most is that you can’t interrupt the other person until they say everything they want to. And, likewise, no one will interrupt you =)

Devices Compatibility: 8/10

Marco Polo Video Walkie Talkie is available on Android-based devices as well as iOS-based ones. So, you can download it for free on your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or a smartphone on Android. I believe there is no need in a PC version of the app as Marco Polo is made for cases when you don’t have the time or just don’t want to sit and type in front of a computer.

The Verdict

So, Marco Polo isn’t a social platform. It’s just a useful tool to stay in touch with your friends and relatives through the videos. When we’re used to communicating via text messages, Marco Polo tries to keep us together with actual voice and image. Of course, no app can replace actual human contact, but it’s good to know that there are such apps like Marco Polo that help to maintain relationships even if we’re too busy to meet in real life.

THE GOOD

  • You get to decide when to watch a video you have received – right away or when you have time for that;
  • You can use video filters, change your voice, and make doodles to make your video more interesting;
  • You and your partner won’t be interrupted by each other like it sometimes happens in real life conversations =)

THE BAD

  • The app weighs about 45 MB which may be pretty much for your phone memory;
  • It may lack features that some of its peers have;
  • Unless I miss some useful features of this app, you can send only videos but there is no opportunity to type a text or make a voice call.
